4 Ways I Cleaned Up My Nutrition & Reversed Food Sensitivities

One of the areas that is the biggest struggle for clients is nutrition. I am not a nutritionist but I do have some tips that have helped me and my clients.

1) I used to obsess over calories. I worked out to eat and I'd wake up every day and get on the scale. If I had gained a pound, I'd be miserable the rest of the day. Now I rarely pay attention to calories and instead focus on ingredients, eating whole foods and opting for organic, non-gmo as much as I can. It's not always perfect. But it is a massive improvement from where my nutrition was. I don't care about the scale anymore, I care about how I FEEL.

2) I would wake up, guzzle coffee and not eat until lunch. Then I'd wonder why I felt terrible. I began prioritizing eating breakfast, swapped out my coffee, planned out meals & made sure to eat every 3 hours or so.

3) I realized once I had a few breakfast & snack ideas down, that I had to prioritize making dinner because that ensured I'd have a balanced lunch the next day with leftovers. I pack up leftovers as I'm making dinner to bring to work the next day so I don't even have to think about it.

4) One of the first things I did when working with a practitioner was an elimination diet. This was extremely strict and I don't necessarily recommend this but I will say that 30 days of eliminating my sensitivities was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I do believe it jump started my healing in a big way. I felt amazing and thought I had found the answer. Eliminate all the foods and you'll feel good. WRONG. This wasn't sustainable and was a temporary, band-aid approach. It took truly uncovering WHY I had developed these sensitivities to reverse them and be able to tolerate things like gluten and dairy again. This is exactly what I help my clients to figure out, however, I do not advocate for super strict elimination diets as I believe this causes more stress to the body and halts healing. We take a more balanced approach with food as we go through the root cause healing process.
